Mary Bergsten, who is chairing our Baby Quilts project, says she has four quilts to take to DHS, and
needs more. She has issued a challenge for 14 baby/toddler quilts for November. Her sister has given
us three crocheted blanks to contribute to this worthy cause. Mary's mother is helping with the labels.
She says to keep those quilts coming and we will have the happiest of babies in Pottawatomie and
Seminole Counties!
HAPPY NOVEMBER BIRTHDAY TO: Mary Ellen Johnson (6); Donna Wingo (8); Shirley Randle
(14); Claudia Corley (28); Marie Rice (28); and Lillie Stover (29)
These people will receive a birthday fat quarter cupcake if they are present at the November
meeting.
We can't make you a birthday present if we don't know when your birthday is!
NO TREASURER'S REPORT FOR THIS MONTH DUE TO CHANGE OF OFFICERS
DUST OFF ALERT
Ladies, all of us have used canned air to clean our sewing machines, sergers and embroidery
machines. Dust Off is one brand, but there are others. An extremely frightening fact about this product
is that some teens are using that product to obtain a "high" and it is extremely dangerous — very often
fatal. To read a true account of what happened to one police officer's son, look on the web at http://
www.snopes.com/medical/toxins/dustoff.asp. This officer taught about drugs in schools; had a retired
drug dog in his home and felt confident no drugs could be pre-sent there. He was wrong, and his son
tragically died in 2005. It is a real wake-up call for all of us who may have this product in our homes, and
who have children or grandchildren who visit. We may very well need to stop using this product, or at
the least keep it locked away from all children.
NOVEMBER MEETING
The November program will cover several areas and you won't want to miss it! Janet will discuss her trip
to Sisters Oregon and Jean Middleswarth will show the quilt she made with pictures from that trip. Janet
will show her tape of the human quilt, and we will have a brief discussion about using photo transfers in
our quilts. If any member has quilts using photo transfer, please bring them to the meeting so we can
discuss the pros and cons of various methods.
PLEASE NOTE; Olivia has said she can edit the newsletter when she puts it on the website, so
we will try to put in names, addresses, and e-mail addresses for the new members in future
newsletters.
Watch for articles about our guild in the Shawnee News-Star, Tecumseh Countywide News and The
Shawnee Sun.
EXECUTIVE BOARD MEETING
October 21, 2006
Eleven guild members meet during the October camp and discussions were held on a number of
subjects, including the following:
Camp dues — raised $5 per session to $30.
The guild's CD was rolled over and will be left as is until after the non-profit certification process is
complete.
Benevolence — Flowers will be sent in the event of the death of a guild member; illness will be dealt with
on a case-by-case basis (whether to collect fat quarters, take food, etc.) by the Benevolence
chairperson.
The need for a "calling tree" was discussed, and will be brought up at the November meeting.
Permission was given to Doris Williams to order new business cards when the present supply is gone.
Tables will be available at guild meetings for Ways and Means projects (no charge) and for individuals
to sell items ($5 per vendor table). Tables will be set up at 6:00, and members may start buying at 6:30.
The budget for 2006-2007 was approved. See the report in this newsletter.
LIBRARY NEWS
Look for the Library Table near the sign'in desk at the November meeting. We have several new books
which will be available for checking out. Also, watch this space for an exciting new idea regarding our
library!

Cindy McVey writes that Hancock Fabrics in Shawnee has made their meeting room available for
members on non-guild Thursday evenings. Everyone is welcome, there is room to spread out a quilt on
table tops for pinning, plug-ins for machines, and they even have an ironing board set up. She says
they have planned for 7 p.m. but some quilters have been coming at 6:30 and with the new Hancock
evening hours until 9:00, it makes for a fun evening!

We are winding down this year, and I do want to THANK ALL THE OFFICERS AND BOARD
MEMBERS for all their help; they are always willing to help any way they can. Now we are gearing
up for our big "Turning Twenty" year and also for Oklahoma's Centennial year. We should have lots
of Centennial quilts made. At quilt camp we had a peek at the treasure chest that Jean
Middleswarth is working on; this will be a lot of fun and a very good money-making project. Whoever
in the guild wins, it will be heaven!! We had a record 35 campers, I believe. Two new members from
Bixby and Muskogee will be back for our February camp. Paula Price won 156 fat quarters. A big
THANK YOU to Mary Ellen for teaching her class; .we saw lots of wall hangings popping up
everywhere. Please bring them to guild November 2 for Drag 'N Brag. As always, we had lots of
good food, fun and something going on everywhere. We made a group picture, so we decided to
make one at each camp at noon on Saturday so most everyone can be there. Cindy McVey needs
two ladies to help decorate the church for our Christmas party on December 7. Don't forget the
6-1/2" block exchange! Last but not least, we had a very productive Board meeting, so READ your
newsletter to find out all we did and what changes were made. Thanks to Wanzalle Beck for all her
work on our non-profit certification. See you at guild meeting; come early to shop (see information
elsewhere in this newsletter for details.)
