OUR QUILT CAMP:
Held three (3) times per year.
We rent the Tecumseh City Hall for a three day event from 8:00 am until 10:00 pm
each day.  We take our machines and necessary sewing items, projects, fabric and
patterns.   We share ideas, sew, visit and eat lots of delicious food.  There is a
vendor at each camp with fabrics, notions, patterns, etc for purchase.  Remember
to take all dishes home and to clean up after yourself.  Start planning your list of
items to bring like:  extension cords, iron and ironing board, cutting items and
camera, if you want someone to take a picture of  you  and your quilt.  You might
want to bring your own chair.  The City Hall provides tables and chairs but yours
might be more comfort.  Cost is $30.00 for 3 days.  You don’t want to miss out.
Start planning today.
The next scheduled camp is:

July 11, 12 and 13
October 10, 11 and 12

Sayings from Cindy:

Please look at your entry form for the quilt show.  You must have  your quilt
delivered before the September meeting.  The September meeting will be at the
show motel for all club members.  We will need anyone who can work on Thursday
during the day to make arrangements to do that because we will be hanging the
quilts then.  They should be all hung by meeting time.  We will be making time
assignments and locations for working the show.  EVERYONE will be expected to
help with the show.  Even if you can’t stand or walk much, we’ll have a spot for you
to help!!
Boy, did we have fun at the July Quilt Camp.  Billie had her Patchwork Place vendor
shop open all 3 days and she cleaned my wallet!  Food was wonderful. We had lots
of TA-DAHS.  If you missed out on the pillow case pattern, get someone to tell you
how.  Darla hurt her back but came in just to show us how to make them.  Everyone
on my Christmas list will be getting them.  A special thanks to Geri for filling in.
Everyone needs to put on their thinking caps and give me suggestions for a
storage situation.  We need our library available, storage for supplies and our
other goodies.  The club has belongings stored at member homes.  Wonderful
would be a location where we could have our meetings and classes but now we
especially need suggestions just for the supplies, etc.  If we are going to have to
pay for a rental unit for supplies, maybe we could find an underused facility that we
could share with another group.  Anyway, think about it and let me know your ideas.
Be thinking about which job you would be willing to take on for the next year.  We
will be adding some positions like hospitality-to greet people at the door and make
certain they sign in and feel welcome.  Everyone will be asked what they will be
willing to do.  See you in August!
                 Cindy

WAYS  AND  MEANS  REPORT

Ladies, it’s time to start going thru your magazines and patterns and books to
donate to the Guild for the Quilt Show Country Store.  Get them to Jean as soon as
possible.
We are having a Country Store Workshop on July 26th -- 9:00 am at the Shawnee
Library.  We will be working on the cutting and drawing books.  Bring a pretty fat
quarter or two for the cover.  It will be mostly gluing…….no sewing.  If there is
something else you want to work on bring it too.  We want to have lots of special
items in the Quilt Show Country Show for people to purchase and enjoy.

Thanks,                Jean Middleswarth,  Ways & Means Chairman

Hi everyone at Spinning Spools!  We are getting settled into our new home, I'm still
moving furniture around and hanging pictures.  Thank you to everyone who has
made me a president's block, they are beautiful!  If you are still working on one or
really plan to work on one, please let Ann or myself know.  I'm anxious to start
working on the quilt, but I want to allow for all the blocks you are making.  Special
thanks to those people who stretched their talents and tried something new.  Gotta
keep learning!  See you at the quilt show.           Thanks again, Janet

WELCOME  TO  THIS  MONTH’S  VISITORS:    Holly Flowers, Roxanne Woods,
Dawn
Ramsey and Ann Cain.  Hope you enjoyed our meeting and program by Darcy
Ashton.

BOOK-NOTES  FROM  KAREN PATTON,  SSQG LIBRARIAN:

Do you enjoy primitive antiques, needleturn appliqué and muted vintage colors?  If
this sounds like a winning combination to you, “Stitched with Love, A Mother’s
Quilting Legacy” by Robyn Pandolph is a book you need to browse through.
Robyn also designs fabric for Moda Fabrics that work well with her designs.
“Stitched with Love” includes a variety of projects.  There are ideas for quilts of
course but also floorcloths, pillows, window clings, recipes and tablecloths to
mention a few.  The subjects work in nurseries, holiday décor, weddings and more.
If you like muted vintage colors and patterns but not needleturn appliqué don’t
reject without reviewing Robyn’s directions.  She walks you thru the process step
by step complete with illustrations.  And if all else fails, you can fuse the patterns.  I
personally am not an appliquer but I did enjoy this book.  I would even consider
doing a project if Donna hadn’t pointed out all my UFO’s! ! ! !
BABY QUILT NEWS:

I only received 3 quilts at the July meeting therefore I do not have enough to hand
out this month.  Let’s get busy working on some more baby quilts.  The next couple
of months are going to be busy with the Quilt Show.
                                         Mary Bergsten

NOTE FROM CINDY MCVEY:  For a while since Mary isn’t feeling up to par,
please only give her completed baby quilts.  Also, she has several uncompleted
baby quilts that she isn’t feeling up to completing.  Anyone who is able to get one
or two from her to complete please do.  That way she can continue to have quilts to
hand out to Baby’s First and DHS.  Thanks, ladies for your help.

Need a baby quilt in a hurry?  Looking to practice your machine quilting?  This
panel is part of the DreamLand line (there is a blue panel for boys too!) and there
are some really cute coordinates too.  “Then you could donate it to the Guild and
made Mary happy.”  There are lots of cute baby panels available.  Give one a try.

REMEMBER YOU CAN BE A VENDOR AT THE REGULAR MONTHLY MEETINGS:

        Call Jean Middleswarth before the meeting to arrange for a table.
        Pay $5.00 per table to Jean
        Have items arranged on table by 6:30pm before the meeting begins.

Tips of the Month

Fill two bobbins with thread. Use one in place of the spool to thread the needle,
and the other for the bobbin. This way no surprises when the bobbin runs out of
thread as they are emptying at the same rate.

Putting your initials or name on sewing notions you take to class or camp will
prevent mix-ups if another person has the same items.

For your Quilt Album:   try to take 3 key photos—one with the recipient and the
quilt, one of the whole quilt, and one that shows details of a corner or a
representative block.  Use an album which holds four 4" x 6" pictures per page.  On
each page I use the three 4" x 6" photos and a 4" x 6" note card to write the details
of when, who and what I want to remember about that quilt.

Block of the Month Information from Mary Ellen Johnson

Ladies, the last installment of the Block of the Month will be here in August or
September, so get your blocks ready for putting your quilt together.

                         WEAR YOUR NAME BADGES!

Please remember to wear your name badges for two reasons:
(1)        If you don’t, you must deposit  $.25  in the piggy.
(2)        New members, guests and those of us with memory lapses
will appreciate it!

THINGS TO REMEMBER FOR  ALL  MEMBERS:

Remember to help pick up after the meetings.  Put your trash (cups, plates,
napkins, etc.) in the trash containers before leaving for the evening.  It is such a
beautiful new facility.  We must do our part to keep it that way.

Remember to turn in your Quilt Show quilt entries by August 15th DEADLINE.
Forms are available from Quilt Show Committee members.

Have you gotten your tickets from Jean Middleswarth for the Quilt Show Raffle
Quilt?  “It is a beauty!”  Get your tickets, sell them then turn the money into Jean as
soon as possible.  This is one of the Guild fund raisers for the year.  To date we
have $180.00            Sell all you can to help the Guild.

SPINNING SPOOLS QUILT SHOW INFORMATION
From Doris and Jean:

Ladies,        We had a good turnout cutting fat quarters at Quilt Camp.  Jean has
a date for a workshop in this newsletter; she still needs lots of little items for
stocking stuffers, etc.  Be sure and put sleeves on your quilts for hanging at the
show and get your entry forms in by August 15th.  Be sure your quilts are clean --
no spots, no animal hairs, etc.  We have not gotten a quilt show judge yet, but are
still working on it.  If anyone knows of someone, let Doris know.  For dropping off
your quilts with Pat Moore, 405 Kimberly in Tecumseh, call 598-5950 first to let her
know you are coming.  Same for dropping off with Doris Williams at 1002 N. Beard
in Shawnee, call  273-9585 first or bring to American Best Value Inn, Thursday,
September 4 at 9am.  Any questions, call Doris at 273-9585.  We are going to
have a great show.

The August meeting is the time to turn in your Quilt Show ribbons if you are making
some so the committee will know how many they have.

Last September,  if  you checked out a quilt packet from the Guild’s free fabric kits,
the quilt now needs  to be finished and ready for the Quilt Show.  Time has run out
ladies.   Time to turn it in to Ann Woods.

MAKE PLANS TO WORK AT THE QUILT SHOW ON SEPTEMBER 4 – 6.  HELP
FROM ALL MEMBERS WILL BE NEEDED AT SOMETIME DURING THIS TIME.  THE
QUILT SHOW COMMITTEE HAS WORKED HARD.  IT IS NOW TIME FOR ALL TO
DO OUR PART AND HELP PUT ON A GREAT SHOW.

REMINDER FROM CINDY --  Please look at your entry form for the quilt show.  You
must have  your quilt delivered before the September meeting.  We will have the
September meeting at the show motel for all club members.  We will need anyone
who can work on that Thursday during the day to make arrangements to do that
because we will be hanging the quilts then.  They should be all hung by meeting
time.  We will be making time assignments and locations for working the show.
EVERYONE will be expected to help with the show.  Even if you can’t stand or walk
